Construction DirectorRole Description
We are seeking a highly strategic, technically proficient, and results-driven Construction Director to lead the organisation's overall construction operations, project delivery, and construction management activities. This role is responsible for overseeing construction projects from planning and development through execution and completion, ensuring that all projects are delivered in accordance with approved budgets, timelines, quality standards, and safety requirements.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across construction activities, drive project efficiency, optimise resource utilisation, manage key stakeholder relationships, and ensure the successful delivery of construction projects in alignment with the organisation's business objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
* Develop and implement comprehensive construction strategies, operational plans, and project execution frameworks aligned with organisational objectives.
* Provide overall leadership and direction for construction operations, project management, engineering coordination, and site execution activities.
* Oversee the full construction project lifecycle, including feasibility assessments, planning, design coordination, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
* Establish project objectives, budgets, schedules, quality benchmarks, and performance indicators to ensure effective project delivery.
* Monitor construction progress, resource allocation, project expenditure, and operational performance to ensure projects are completed within approved timelines and budgets.
* Lead construction planning, cost estimation, contract administration, procurement strategies, and resource management activities.
* Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, construction regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, environmental standards, and contractual obligations.
* Oversee project risk management, identify potential construction challenges, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
* Manage relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, developers, and relevant authorities.
* Drive construction quality assurance and quality control initiatives to ensure compliance with technical specifications, design requirements, and industry standards.
* Lead the evaluation and selection of contractors, suppliers, and strategic project partners to ensure cost effectiveness and reliable project execution.
* Implement construction management systems, operational procedures, and performance monitoring frameworks to improve productivity and project efficiency.
* Oversee project variations, contractual negotiations, claims management, and dispute resolution to protect the organisation's commercial interests.
* Identify opportunities to adopt innovative construction methods, sustainable building practices, modern technologies, and process improvements.
* Lead and develop construction management teams, project managers, engineers, and site personnel to establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
* Provide regular project updates, financial assessments, risk reports, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
* Drive continuous improvement in construction operations, project governance, safety management, and overall project delivery performance.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline. A Master's degree or MBA is an advantage.
* Strong knowledge of construction management, project development, engineering principles, building systems, and construction operations.
* Excellent understanding of project planning, scheduling, cost control, contract administration, procurement, and construction methodologies.
* Strong financial and commercial acumen, including project budgeting, cost estimation, financial forecasting, and resource optimisation.
* Comprehensive knowledge of construction regulations, building codes, occupational health and safety standards, and quality management systems.
* Strong leadership, strategic planning, organisational, and decision-making capabilities.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to oversee multiple complex construction projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams effectively.
* Strong understanding of project management methodologies, risk assessment, quality assurance, and performance monitoring.
* Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools, engineering applications, and Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of sustainable construction practices, building technologies, and modern construction innovations.
* Strong ability to manage contractors, consultants, suppliers, and contractual relationships.
