General Manager to$140K+S, Members Club (Ski), Mon-Fri, Sydney Based. No Gaming
Компания: Placed Recruitment

**General Manager, member based alpine club**
A long established member based alpine club with lodges in the Snowy Mountains needs a new General Manager. The current GM has been in the role a long time and is retiring. You’ll inherit good systems, stable lodge managers and a strong balance sheet. There’s still plenty to do: a major lodge rebuild, the fundraising to pay for it, and growing summer revenue. This suits someone who wants to run a club, not just administer it.
The club is a not for profit. It has no liquor licence and no gaming, and that won’t change. Revenue comes from annual subscriptions and lodge bookings.
The focus is the member experience, the racing and education programmes, and looking after the assets.
**About the club**
The club has been going for generations. It has just over 2,000 members, and many families go back three and four generations.
There are three lodges in the Snowy Mountains, with 40 to 50 beds each.
The plans for the rebuild are ready. The DA will be lodged once a final sign off is in place. After approval, the build happens over summers so the lodge stays open in winter. Once it’s finished, the club can sell summer stays to the public for the first time.
**The role**
You run the club from the Sydney office and report to the President. Permanent lodge managers run each site. You have a small office team.
The board meets every six weeks. You write the papers, financials and recommendations and send them out days ahead. Done properly, meetings take 45 to 60 minutes.
Your responsibilities include:
* The annual calendar. That covers the winter booking window, the school holiday ballot, subscriptions going out on 1 December, rates, the budget, the audit, the annual report and bulletin, and the AGM. Everything works back from fixed dates. Diarise it and it runs.
* Lodge managers across three sites. Check payroll weekly against occupancy and the same week last year, and step in early if something’s off.
* Budget and finance. The financial year is the calendar year. You work with the Treasurer and the auditors, produce the annual report and present at the AGM.
* Being the face of the club in winter. You spend three to four weeks a year at the lodges with the junior race team, the coaching course, the cross country and the senior inter club. You have dinner with families and watch the operation.
* The lodge rebuild. Board members have full time jobs. You take the coordination, fundraising, grant applications and project oversight off their plate.
* Members. You handle enquiries, bookings, complaints and the hard conversations. Policy applies to everyone the same way. You hold the line and keep the relationship.
There’s a detailed handover document covering every process, key date and system. The outgoing GM will work alongside you before you start and stay on as a member. After the handover, it’s yours.
**Essential**
* Experience in a member based organisation, such as a golf, surf, yacht or sporting club, or an NGO. You’ve known members by name and you’re good at managing stakeholders.
* Financial literacy. You read a P&L, build a budget and hold managers to their costs without micromanaging.
* Even keeled, with strength of character. You’re fine with a hard conversation when it’s needed. You can say no to a 40 year member and keep them onside.
* Consistency. Rules apply the same for everyone, and you don’t fold under pressure.
**Nice to have:** you enjoy snow sports, or you’ve done fundraising or grant applications. Neither a deal breaker.
This could suit a club manager ready for their first top job, or an experienced GM who wants a well run club to own long term. The standard is the same either way. We can teach the systems. We can’t teach presence with members.
**Why you’ll thrive**
* Strong salary package
* Monday to Friday, apart from three to four weeks at the lodges in winter
* Accommodation and meals provided at the lodges, and travel covered
* Full handover with documentation and the outgoing GM alongside you
* Stable, experienced lodge managers
* A board that trusts its GM
* A strong club
* The lodge rebuild and summer revenue growth to lead
**Hours, location and start**
This is a full time, permanent role based in the Sydney office. You’ll travel to the Snowy Mountains three to four times a year for about a week each time, mostly in winter. Outside those weeks it’s Monday to Friday. The start is April 2027, with a few handover days with the outgoing GM from January.
