Posted October 22, 2026 Freelance PT ± 3 hours Remote Zovian is looking for a UI/UX designer to join our team and bring visual polish to an early-stage web platform. We're building a full-service online platform for community-run gaming events. We're building tools that support organizers at every step, from creating the event and opening registration to picking participants, livestreaming, moderating, validating scores, posting leaderboards, and paying out through an established payment processor. This is a part-time, paid contract role well suited to a designer with a strong artistic eye who can take existing screens and create elevated designs that are striking, cohesive, and enjoyable to use. Much of the groundwork is already in place. Our flows, structure, and early screens exist, and we are past the wireframe stage. What we need now is a designer who can carry that work the rest of the way: someone with real command of color, composition, typography, and the judgment to know where to focus on visual flare versus functional use. You will work closely with both our engineering team and our founder to refine existing designs and create new visual assets within an established direction. We are looking for someone who is friendly, positive, and easy to work with, confident making visual decisions, explaining the reasoning behind them, and comfortable collaborating on how those decisions fit into a product that is already taking shape. Scope of Work You will be responsible for the visual quality of the platform, working independently between weekly or bi-weekly syncs to stay aligned on direction and review completed work. Responsibilities include: Visual Design Building a confident, cohesive color language across layers, modals, buttons, interaction states, and warnings. Sleek and clean by default, bold where something needs to feel significant Designing unique, recognizable icons for in-platform systems Creating light animation for button states, notifications, moving banners, and transitions Taking existing screens from near-complete to fully realized, so the finished product reads as intentional throughout Interface and Experience Selecting and applying typography for readability, accessibility, and scaling across mobile and desktop Designing interactive elements, pop ups, tabs, and layered windows that are consistent in styling and modular across the platform Participating in user testing and translating findings into concrete design changes Collaboration Syncing regularly with our founder and engineers on priorities, visual direction, and how new work fits into the existing product Raising blockers, inconsistencies, or scope concerns early Requirements A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent visual craft, including color, composition, typography, and finished interface work Solid grounding in UI/UX fundamentals, including accessibility, responsive design, and visual hierarchy Experience creating icons or other custom interface assets such as light UI motion Self-directed and proactive, with a track record of taking work from idea to final delivery Receptive to feedback, with the flexibility to iterate or change course as priorities shift Friendly, positive, and easy to work with day to day. We're a group of chill people who like to work with chill people. Strong communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English Available for regular check-ins during Pacific Time (PT) working hours Nice to Have Familiarity with design systems and reusable component libraries Experience working with startups and early-stage applications Interest in or experience designing for games, competitive platforms, and creator communities Additional Information We are able to work with contractors based in California, but you must operate as a registered business entity due to state-specific legal requirements. How to Apply If this sounds like a good fit, we’d love to hear from you! To be considered, your resume or application must include: A portfolio or links to relevant work Disclosure of any AI-generated portfolio or design samples. We value thoughtful, human-made work and want to understand how you think . Your previous professional experience We would also love to have: A short introduction about yourself and how you like to work Your rates and availability Any questions you’d like to ask us We look forward to seeing your work!
