This is a full-time, fully remote role on a rhythm-driven mobile title in development in Unity. You'll design and implement gameplay where player input, musical timing, and in-game action come together, and build the systems that connect those rhythm mechanics to combat, character abilities, team composition, and progression. We're looking for a designer who is comfortable in Unity and C#, understands how animation, audio, input, and gameplay logic fit together, and enjoys discussing design choices. Experience with rhythm games or RPG systems is a bonus but not required. Compensation: 70,000–90,000 CAD per year Employment type: Full-time Location: Montreal, QC, Canada (fully remote). We welcome applicants residing anywhere in Quebec. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Responsibilities Design and implement rhythm-based gameplay, ensuring player inputs, musical timing, and in-game actions work together to deliver responsive and engaging experiences. Develop and refine gameplay systems that connect rhythm mechanics with combat, character abilities, team composition, and player progression. Work with animation and audio teams to synchronize gameplay events, character actions, and visual feedback with the music and player inputs. Implement, configure, and maintain gameplay features and supporting systems in Unity, collaborating with engineering to ensure designs are technically feasible and maintainable. Contribute to systems design, including progression, rewards, difficulty balancing, and other interconnected gameplay mechanics. Prototype, test, and iterate on gameplay features in-engine. Communicate and implement design requirements, technical constraints, and feedback. Qualifications 3+ years of experience working as a game designer or technical game designer in the games industry. Experience with Unity and implementing gameplay mechanics using C# and/or other relevant implementation tools. Experience designing or implementing rhythm-based, music-driven, timing-sensitive, or similarly responsive gameplay systems. Experience working with or designing multiplayer gameplay systems. Understanding of how animation, audio, player input, and gameplay logic interact to create polished gameplay experiences. Ability to translate design concepts into functional in-engine implementations and iterate on them through testing. Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills. Professional working proficiency in English, as the role involves daily written and verbal communication with English-speaking teams at Skymap studios outside Quebec. Nice to Have Experience working on rhythm games or games featuring music-synchronized gameplay. Experience with RPG systems, including character progression, abilities, upgrades, rewards, or unlocks. Familiarity with Unity animation systems, state machines, animation events, or timelines. Experience with data-driven design, gameplay tuning, or balancing interconnected systems. A passion for video games, music, and discussing design choices.
